DC History Center

Elevating the stories of Washington’s people, communities, and institutions.

We worked with the DC History Center’s team and our partners at Greater Good Strategy to completely reimagine the Center’s online presence. The new website captures the Center’s energy, showcases its rich programming, fosters community engagement, and expands an already rich visual identity.

A bold menu inspired by wayfinding

The website navigation takes cues from the visual clarity of museum signage. Each section is color-coded and treated as its own “zone,” creating the feeling of moving through distinct exhibit and event spaces.

A Triadic Color System
Building on the five core brand colors, we developed a palette that expands each into a harmonious —and accessible— trio. Every section of the website is anchored by one of these trios, giving users a clear visual cue to associate with that section. The result is a bold, consistent, and confident use of color across every page.

A modular system for every page

The back-end features a flexible design framework with over 25 unique modules that can be combined to accommodate a wide range of content and layouts. Each module comes in multiple color palettes and display modes, enabling seamless customization while ensuring visual consistency across the entire site.

The new website allows staff to easily update content, highlight events and programs, and tell the stories that make the Center an essential part of DC’s cultural landscape.
